Okay, now THAT was fun :)

93, all!

Just a quick thank-you to the good sports on my Friends list, so many of whom took part in our Rabbit Hole Day festivities. I hope "a good time was had by all." :D

For those who wondered, most of our format-changes for the magical twenty-four related to the PsychFurs song I kept riffing off of -- "Alice's House" (as in "Come and spend the-day, at Al-ice's Houuuse..."); e.g., the journal's title became "It's a mess of souvenirs," subtitled, "there to remind you, telling the time" -- lines from the song, and also appropriate both to LJ in general, and to an attempt to use all 22 names from my Friends list in particular. The color change was (a) to immediately make the steady reader say "What th -- ?", and (b) for legibility: the twenty-two LJ name links are a lot dimmer in my usual format. Irrelevant to most of you, reading it on your own Friends pages, but I always try to make room for lurkers. ;) (Oh, and not that anybody here didn't get this, but Charles Lutwidge Dodgson ("Charlie D") was, of course, the given name of St. Lewis Carroll himself, whose 173rd birthday yesterday was. And the icon was a Tenniel illustration of the Mad Tea Party, natch.)

I first heard about Rabbit Hole Day on redjenn93's page, three weeks ago, and having synchronously enough just bought a copy of Mirror Moves (with "Alice's House" on it, of course), found the invitation to "come and spend a day" irresistible.

The emotion in the piece, btw, was and is absolutely genuine; like most poetic types I have refused to outgrow sentiment, however little use I have for sentimentality. We're only here for a short time, you and I: on the planet, and even more so on LJ, making these little pixel marks in the cyber-sands. All of you have let me into your lives in some measure, and that really does bring tears to these aging eyes. (So there!) I figured the least I could do was celebrate some aspect of you, or at the least of your online persona: this one's firmness and tact, that one's beauty and talent, and so forth. If anyone's thumbnail sketch seemed inadequate here, blame my meager talents; if intrusive, please accept my apologies.

Finally, a particular thank-you to those among you who took the trouble to reply. Not that anybody needed to, of course, and I'm sure a number of folks haven't seen the thing yet (or won't, for that matter); but I feel a special gratitude to those who played along. That said, each and every one of you (even you, status!) is just permanently and preposterously cool. :)
