Some Thoughts on Waking
It occurs to me that while I spend a fair bit of time in this journal trying to shake up people's illusions about their environment, as a general thing I find it impermissibly cruel to poke at people's illusions about themselves. I'll occasionally make an exception for bullies, or when somebody picks a fight with me (different from simply disagreeing, of course)...and the principal exception (and then in private) is when specifically asked to, particularly by candidates for initiation: inner order initiation is largely about poking at a candidate's internal (and external) illusions.
To be fully effective as an initiator of this type, as a pugilist of the spirit, one must have honestly faced and exposed one's own illusions, naturally. The rarity of this experience among humans helps account for the rarity of functional inner orders themselves.
On an unrelated point, we've had the Oldies feed on Music Choice cable on a lot lately, and I also woke with "More Today than Yesterday" running through my head. After substituting several of my typical obscene-parody lyrics, I remembered something funny I always thought about that song: picturing the beloved addressed in it having to do some math to decode its message:Let's see...more today than yesterday, check; only half as much as tomorrow -- Oh!, well, that's
And you thought the metaphysical poets died out by the nineteenth century!

P.S. Coming up soon (I hope): appreciations of Grant Morrison, and the Star Wars saga. Stay tuned, if you care. :D (And now, alas, back to work. :P )
