1. First of all, points for restraint -- I thought of calling this "Spanksgiving Day," but thought better of it. (Anyway, isn't every day Spanksgiving Day? Of cawse it is! :D )
2. On a more serious note, Thanksgiving Day being one of my favorite holidays, I gave some thought as I always do to what, specifically, I'm thankful for this year. Particularly given so much trauma in the world today, it's easy to see what we're grateful we're not going through...but that's obvious, trite -- and in some ways offensive, given how many others, including others on LJ, are going through just such traumas. So, much love and sincerest best wishes that all your undeserved traumas get the hell out of your life, whatever they may be.
3. Then it hit me what I'm most conscious of being thankful for this year...and it's this: the Thelemic impulse, most especially among nominal non-Thelemites. Yammering on about our vast respect for individual Will is one thing; actually respecting people's individual Wills, all too often another. Not to single him out, but (hoping he'll forgive me), I think of entropy156. He prolly finds my political perspective as squirmy as I do his, but we seem to remain effortlessly able to like and respect each other just the same. Would that there were more "Thelemites" able to shake free of that parody of Thelema which says, "I hold your individual Will in very high esteem, precisely insofar as it comports with my own preferences for you." Ditto for, say, the_angelus -- a Christian who respects my religion (as I do his) a great deal more than some of my nominal co-religionists seem to respect my right (and indeed obligation!) to find my own way up the mountain, as it were.
So, in the words of St. Sly, to all of you, Thelemites or otherwise, to whom it truly applies: Thank you! Falletinme! Be mice elf! A-gin!...just as I strive to do the same, always and for everyone.
You are good people, my friends, and you have no idea how much it means to me.
