"The Initiate is well aware that his instruction will be misinterpreted by malice, dishonesty, and stupidity; and not being omnipotent, he has to acquiesce in the perversion of his precepts. It is part of the game. 'Liber I vel Magi' tells the Magus (here defined as the Initiate charged with the duty of communicating a new truth to mankind) what he may expect." -- Magick, Appendix IX.
"[T]his is the Mystery of the great prophets that have come unto mankind, Moses, and Buddha, and Lao Tan, and Krishna, and Jesus, and Osiris, and Mohammad; for all these attained unto the grade of Magus, and therefore were they bound with the curse of Thoth. But, being guardians of the truth, they have taught nothing but falsehood, except unto such as understood; for the truth may not pass the Gate of the Abyss." -- The Vision and the Voice, Sixth Aethyr.
"He who became the Master Therion was once confronted by this very difficulty. Being determined to instruct mankind, He sought a simple statement of his object. His will was sufficiently informed by common sense to decide him to teach man The Next Step, the thing which was immediately above him. He might have called this "God," or "The Higher Self," or "The Augoeides," or "Adi-Buddha," or 61 other things -- but He had discovered that these were all one, yet that each one represented some theory of the Universe which would ultimately be shattered by criticism -- for He had already passed through the realm of Reason, and knew that every statement contained an absurdity. He therefore said: 'Let me declare this Work under this title: "The Obtaining of the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel,"' because the theory implied in these words is so patently absurd that only simpletons would waste much time in analyzing it. It would be accepted as only a convention, and no one would incur the grave danger of building a philosophical system upon it....
"The mind is the great enemy; so, by invoking enthusiastically a person whom we know not to exist, we are rebuking that mind. -- Magick, Part Three, Chapter Two.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Everybody professes to hate teh stoopid, but nobody does anything about it. One Hundred Thirty-One years ago a Man was born who grew up to do something about it. To Him forever sing praises, even should you have to wander alone to do so.
Raised amid an all-consuming, if wrongheaded, spirituality, he determined early to Find God; and yet he rebelled against credulity, and falsehood, and the all-pervasive hatred of Who We Really Are. And whaddaya know: he found God, and Man and Woman, and the Truth of Who We Are...and unlike everyone else in the History of the World, found a way to harmonize all of these things together.
Today his teaching has devotees all over the earth. It will be more widely understood hereafter; the critical thing, for now, is that it survives. Whodathunkit? :D
Happy Birthday, Uncle Al, and thanks beyond the power of speech for all you gave us. "and blessing & worship to the prophet of the lovely Star!"
Love is the law, love under will.
Yours in Love and Freedom, THETA
